Home : Tutorials : Microsoft Windows Vista : Show the Computer icon on the Microsoft Windows Vista desktop

Show the Computer icon on the Microsoft Windows Vista desktop.

This is how to add the Computer icon, formally My Computer, to your desktop.  I would rather find my data this way since I create folders in non-standard places.  It makes it easier for me to create proper backups.

  • Single left-click on the Start button.

  • Single right-click on Computer.

  • Single left-click on Show on Desktop in the context menu that pops-up to check if it is not already.
    • Do not click if there is already a check in front of Show on Desktop. The context menu should look like the picture above.

  • This is what the Computer icon looks like.
    • Use it to access files stored on your computer via drive letters.
